St. Albans' field 2 teams and secure the Bronze Medal

St. Albans On Saturday 19th May, Herts Fencing Association held it's annual team foil competition. This year 6 teams entered - 2 from Herts University, one from Watford, one 'unaffiliated', and 2 from St. Albans. The two teams from St. Albans comprised - From left to right.

Team B - Barclay, Roger & David. Team A - Vince, James & Nick.

The competition was organised as a series of relays i.e. in each round, the bouts were played to successive counts of 5, e.g. if the first bout finished 5-3, the 2nd bout would be first to 10, i.e. the first bout winner needs 5 points, the loser 7. Teams played to 45 points. A lot of fencing was conducted over a short period of time, and with the format of the competition, we all got to fence the same number of matches - Doors opened at 1:30, we started at 2, and were finished at 6:30. The team from Watford did not turn up, so Jason valiantly played the part of a whole team for 4 matches, and spectacularly nearly won a couple of rounds! A phenomenal effort - well done. St. Albans A lost their first two matches to the 'unaffiliated' team 30-45 and to the University A. They won the next against Uni B 45-16, and narrowly won their last against St. Albans B.
