Chairman’s Seasonal Message

Dear St Albans Fencers,

It’s no secret that 2020 has been tough for everyone, and I know that many of you have had your own personal challenges, both directly related to COVID and more generally.

Obviously, being able to fence is relatively trivial in some contexts, but having seen how keen our members have been to get back on the piste, for the club to have to worry about limited capacity, and knowing how often people have been staying in touch with each other, shows we’re far more than just a fencing club.

A huge thank you must go to all the committee, as the amount of uncomplaining work that has gone largely unseen has been unprecedented.
And on behalf of the committee I’d like to say a huge thank you to all the other members for sticking with us and being patient as the challenges of re-opening (and re-closing) have been negotiated.
That the club has also attracted new members in the last year is just mind blowing.

After proving particularly unreliable recently, my crystal ball is currently getting upgraded, so no predictions from me. I don’t imagine we’ll be fencing at the beginning of January, but I can promise that the committee will do everything we can to open the club up as soon as it is logistically possible.

I sincerely hope everyone has a good festive season, and for those moments that are tough, feel free to stick your head above the parapet on the club’s WhatsApp group or on our FB page (or send a note on the back of a sealed down envelope to the usual Blue Peter address): someone else is almost certain to reply.

Stay safe.
We will be back.
