02.02.2022: A Bumper Crop of Medals…and news!

SAFC SUCCESS AT LONDON REGION COMPETITION!!

Some frankly fantastic results from SAFC’s fencers at the London Region Novice & Intermediate Competetion at the weekend.

Bita took Bronze in the Women’s Novice Foil

Adam took Silver in the Men’s Novice Épée

Richard R took Bronze in the Men’s Intermediate Épée

Daniel N also deserves a mention for winning a poule match in the Men’s Novice Foil; no mean feat.  Unfortunately the excitement was too much for his foil!

Well done all, we’re very proud.  Particular so of Bita, Daniel & Adam who have only recently finished as Beginners.

DACORUM vs SAFC SABRE FRIENDLY

Last Friday Richard B lead the SAFC sabre charge with Simon & Gemma to Dacorum for a friendly.

Unfortunately Dacorum were just too strong on the night and took the win 7 -2, but it was great fun and thanks to Dacorum for hosting.  Watch this space for more sabre matches coming soon!

SECOND NIGHT..? GAUGING INTEREST

Due to popular demand we are considering trialing a second night.

We have the option to hire the small hall for a 12 week period on a Monday night (approx 8-10pm, exact times TBC).  There wouldn’t be a coach or club-lead warm-up, just free sparring – the club would provide piste equipment.

Cost would be £5/night for members who pay monthly or quarterly, or £10/night for those who pay nightly.

We’d need at least 5 nightly payers or 10 monthly/quarterly members each week to make it viable in terms of covering the additional hall hire cost.

We’re not asking for any commitment at this stage, just gauging the level of interest.  Fancy it? Let us know!

SAFC AGM

The club’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Tues. 22nd Feb, from 8pm at the King Harry Pub.

If you can help with running the club or just want to tell us what you think, good bad or indifferent we would love to hear it.

The club will organise some food & drink, details TBC.

Please confirm your attendance by booking a place HERE

NEW BEGINNERS COURSE

Our next beginner’s course starts this Thursday, with 20 (!!) people signed up.

If anyone can help with getting them kitted out, that would be much appreciated.  The beginners will be arriving from 19.30 so if you can come a little early to assist, then please do.

Please keep an eye out for anyone looking a bit lost and help point them in the right direction!

AND FINALLY…. A FAREWELL

…we bid a fond farewell to David W, who is moving away to Essex – tonight is his last night with us!

David has fenced with us for many years and has been a stalwart of the club’s epee team in 3 Counties matches.

We are sorry to lose you from the club, our loss is Essex’s gain.

Best wishes to you and your family David, you are always welcome back any time.
