14.04.22 – Herts Championship, 3 Counties & Socks!

Another Thursday and we’re back to fencing! A few reminders of things ongoing:

The Hertfordshire Fencing Association is sponsoring the Herts County Championships for the first time in two years – coming up at the end of this month! Taking place over Saturday 23 April and Sunday 24 April, the HFACC will be in Hitchin, entry is £25, and there are categories for every weapon and age group, including novices (new to Fencing since 2019). This is a great opportunity to dip your proverbial toes in the world of competition or to rebuild those competition chops after a few years away. More information and entries can be found on the HFACC AllEntries page. – Sign up now!

Sadly our Three Counties match away at Luton did not take place this past Tuesday, as planned. Watch this space for info on a rescheduled head-to-head with Luton and for other upcoming matches. Our next scheduled match is 21 April (next Thursday) with Watford visiting us at home, followed up by 3 May when we’re meant to go away to Hitchin. These matches are both Foil and Épée so we need a minimum of three fencers (who do both weapons) or six (if separate) to make sure they take place. Although they didn’t end up holding the match, kudos to our double-weapon team of Gemma, Dan, and Matthew who went up to Luton on Tuesday.

Onto socks! Everyone’s favourite bit of flair on their fencing kit, of course! There is an effort underway to have SAFC-branded fencing socks made – thanks to Bita who is leading the charge on this front. If you haven’t already, she’s keen to hear expressions of interest in this sartorial project.
