Dear SAFC Fencers
Current membership of British Fencing (BF) is a mandatory requirement to fence at SAFC. BF membership provides personal accident and civil liability insurance; this protects you and other fencers present in case of accidents.
In line with our new sign-in policy, from Thursday 5th Sept ’19 ALL fencers attending SAFC will need to confirm their British Fencing membership number.
Each week, you will need to either: Enter your BF membership number OR Tick a declaration that within the previous 12 months you have filled in an SAFC members details form.
So, please take time now to fill in the form on line– it holds contact information for you, some In Case Of Emergency (ICE) info and your BF membership details.
The form is held securely and will used only by club officials and only ICE and to check BF membership of our fencers.
On the anniversary of you filing in the form you’ll be sent a reminder to review the information and fill in the form again.
If during the year your details change – your email, your ICE details, your BF membership status, please revisit the link and resubmit a new form – sorry the system is not clever enough at present to show you what is held automatically.
If at any time you would like to see what information is held, contact firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and registered email address and the club will send you this information.
The club will retain members information for 5 years to comply with our liability requirements.
Details of the various membership categories can be found on the BF site.
Road access to the Marlborough School is expected to be effected for 2 weeks (starting Mon 18 Feb) by roadworks at the King Harry Pub junction. (Map)
It seems even the school are not completely certain of the timings, and evening/ night time closures are going to be fairly dynamic, but as best we know at the moment:
Phase 1: Monday the 18th Feb to Sunday the 24th Feb : Access to the school can ONLY be made via WATLING STREET entering from the PARK STREET ROUNDABOUT. The road will be closed from the King Harry Pub. No access can be made to the school from the North side during this time. St Stephens Hill will also be closed.
Phase 2: From Monday the 25th Feb to Sunday the 3rd Mar: Access via St Stephens Hill but WATFORD ROAD and KING HARRY LANE (via the King Harry pub) are closed, Watling Street is open from the Park St roundabout.
NOTE: Night time road closures start at 8pm, changes and diversions are likely. We understand the school will be accessible on Thursday evenings, but we cant be certain of local closures and diversions.
Please take a look in your kit bags, in the boot of your car, under your bed – any SAFC kit? The body wire you borrowed as a spare for the competition, the glove you borrowed when you’d forgotten your own, the plastron you took home to wash. Please have a look and return anything you’ve got before the end of the year.
With eternal gratitude,
Beginners and refreshers course starts this Thursday (1st Nov). Any club members (you’ll need to be paying quarterly) who’d like to pick up some good basic tips are welcome to attend Andy Docherty’s beginners course that starts this week. Runs for 8 weeks and will cover the basics of fencing, concentrating on Foil. If you’d like to take part, let Andy know as soon as you arrive on Thursday.
There will be a dedicated sabre piste for sabreurs this week. And Jon Daley, our Level 4 sabre coach, will be available for 1-2-1 lessons.
Following on from the Beginners’ Course, our next Intermediate class starts straight after the warm-up.
This is FREE to anyone signed up for quarterly fees or £5 (+ guest fee) otherwise.

We are also at home to Hitchin this week and are currently ranked 1= in the table. If you are available to represent SAFC, let James Bryant know.
