SAFC – 1st Thursday = Epee night, plus news and up-coming events

Posted

This week: Epee night

This week will be an Epee night, so as well as the foil pistes, we will have at least one piste dedicated to Epee.

Open Air Competition: 10th September

The Open Air will be held at the tennis courts at Marlborough School as previously. Despite valiant efforts to find a different location, we have drawn a blank. My first Open Air was last year and it was a great day of fencing and hanging-out, with a very relaxed and happy atmosphere. Sort of a summer celebration with some ( a lot of!) competitive fencing thrown in! More details and flyers etc. to follow shortly.

Summer Fencing

We will be fencing throughout the school summer holidays, apart from the 24th August. Per session costs are slashed to £5 per night!

Other clubs will also be open as follows:

Dacorum Fencing Club:

Location: Hemel Hempstead Sportspace

When:

Monday evening at 7-9 pm Epee
Tuesday morning 10-12 sabre, Epee
Friday evening 6-7 pm Family Fencing / 7-8 pm Women’s Sabre

Watford Fencing Club:

WFC offer Free fencing in August

Location: Nuffield Health Fitness Club, Royal Masonic School for Girls.

When: Wednesday: 8pm to 10pm

Eastern Region events

We have two competitions in the Eastern Region coming up soon.

August:

The Great Yarmouth Invitation Foil is on Sunday the 20th August. This is a friendly foil competition and would recommend for those who wish to get involved in competition fencing. To register contact Robert: rj.gywfc@gmail.com

September:

We have one of the biggest events in our region the Essex Open on the 9th & 10th Sept at Colchester. This is recommended for all competitive fencers. Registration is here: https://www.sport80.com

SAFC – 4th Thursday = Competition night and start of Intermediate course, plus news and up-coming events

Posted

This week: Last week of the Beginners course / Start of the Intermediate course

Congratulations to all our Beginners on completing the course!

We had two people drop-out, one because of pulled muscle (not whilst fencing thankfully!) and the other due to work commitments and she is planning to be back for the next course.

After the Poule Unique last week (results below) it is a chance to compete in teams with the rest of the club.

But before that we will have the Intermediate course starting. The format is a half hour session with a coach to continue the development process. The course will run for five sessions to 31st August (the club is closed on 24th August).

This is open to all SAFC quarterly members for free, and for those paying on a weekly basis they can pay an additional £5 per session to attend.

If you are planning to join in with the Intermediate course, whether you are a recent Beginner or not, please reply to this email so we have an idea on likely numbers.

This week: Club Competition night!

It is 4th Thursday so it is Club Competition night!

  • Every 4th Thursday of the month!
  • Not sure on the format for this week, as yet…
  • Beginners and Experienced foilists welcome to join in.

Remember, if you are a member of a local fencing club and pay regularly there, you can fence with us for a £5 a night.

Last week: Beginners Poule Unique results

Andy ran a Poule Unique for the Beginners and here are the results:

1st: Richard: three victories

2nd: Stefan: two victories and one defeat

3rd: Dasun: one victory and two defeats

4th Alex: three defeats

Time this week to see if some of that was beginners luck and whether some revenge can be meted out in the Club Competition!

Open Air Competition

As mentioned last week, the Open Air Competition is on, 10th September, we are just checking if we can change location, more to follow when plans have been finalised… In the meantime, please put it in your diaries and we are looking forward to seeing you there, where ever ‘there’ turns out to be!
