Penultimate 3C match of the year – Bedford

Tuesday night an intrepid band of fencers headed north into the darkness of Bedfordshireshire.

The teams were

Having fenced at Bedford a few times I knew the epee would be tough – they’re currently ranked 1st for epee in the competition, for good reason.

And so it proved to be…  We only managed to win 2 of our epee matches.  But it was so close to being a different story, with Matthew & Richard both losing one of their matches by a single point.

Thankfully the foil was a different story.  Jake won all three of his matches, Mélanie won one of hers (it was so nearly 2 wins, losing a match by one hit) and Simon already had two wins under his belt.

The last bout of the evening was Simon’s 3rd fight and THE DECIDER!  we needed a victory to win the foil 7-2 and so get a draw overall.

It started well and Simon got an early lead to 4-2 and looked to have the win in the bag!
but frustratingly his opponent pulled back a couple of hits to level the score at four-all.

It was tense!  But Simon got the final all-important hit.  Well done.  And so the foil was ours and the match an overall draw.   A fair result for both teams.

Thanks to all who gave up their time on a dark, cold wet Tuesday night.

That was our penultimate 3C match of the year.  The final one being Luton who was due to visit us a few weeks ago but had to cancel.

We’re now looking at a new date of either Thurs.29.Nov or Thurs.06.Nov, pending Luton to confirm.  Watch this space.
