Fencers – we’re into exam season and that means the main sports hall is out of action for a while.
Starting tonight (09.05) and until further notice, we’re in the small gym on Thurdays.
Tonight we’re limiting numbers to 18 plus Beginners as it’s their final week!
So please sign in early to avoid disappointment. Normally there will be a limit of 24 in the gym.
Please help us by keeping kit bags to either far end of the gym and not down the sides. And please do not leave swords, masks etc between the pistes or at the end of them. Thank you
BEDFORD MATCH REPORT
On Tuesday night, three of our fencers made the journey to Bedford for our fouth league match of the year.
It was a tough match with Foil first. After the first 4 bouts it was even stevens at 2-2 but we then pulled out a lead to 2-4. Bedford rallied and pulled it back but we just managed a win 4-5.
The Epee didn’t start very well at all and they were very tough competition. We went 4-nil down and it wasn’t looking good! But we rallied and won the next 4 on the bounce to level the score at 4-4. Unfortunately, they just pipped us in the last bout and so took the epee 5-4.
So overall a well-fought draw with the final score being BEDFORD 9 – 9 SAFC. Thanks to Bedford for being excellent hosts as usual and we look forward to the return leg.
NORTHAMPTON FC BOB GRANGE CUP
Well done to Natalia, Adam and Charlie who competed in this mixed weapon team event at the weekend.
SAFC ended up 11th out of 12 so didn’t win the wooden spoon – well done team! The smiles say it all!
Special mentions to Natalia who stepped in at short notice due to JD being injured and unable to attend. Natalia has only recently completed our Beginners Course and this was her first ever competition. Natalia even managed to score TWO POINTS against some bloke called Ben.
Also to Adam who was wielding a sabre instead of his usual epee. And he was pretty handy too by all accounts!
BYC RESULTS
