18.05.23: Small Gym / SAFC Shock Bedford / Research Athlete Panel

THURS. 18/05: SMALL GYM THIS WEEK

We’re in the small gym again so we’ll run 4 short pistes to maximise use of the space; in order to help things run smoothly please note the following:

  • No group warm up: fencers are responsible for their own warm up.
  • No individual lessons: just free sparring
  • Coach Laura is unavailable tonight; instead Dan is going run a poule or team competition for our ex-beginners
  • Be aware of others around you when fencing and when not.
  • Please help by keeping kit bags to either end of the gym.

SAFC SHOCK BEDFORD WITH AWAY WIN!

On Tuesday SAFC fencers travelled to Bedford.  It was going to be a tough match, Bedford are very competitive,  in 2nd place in the league and undefeated so far with 4/4 wins in both weapons this year.

Epee was first & SAFC put in a stunning performance, there’s no other way of putting it.  Bedford were a very strong team but we matched them…. and beat them!  Epee ended BEDFORD 2 – 7 SAFC.

Bedford were visibly shaken, they were reeling, but their foil team rallied and put up a better fight, and we couldn’t quite match them this time.

Foil ended BEDFORD 6 – 3 SAFC but the score doesn’t reflect how close it was, we lost a couple of those by just one point.

But the shock epee result gave us the OVERALL MATCH WIN!!! (Overall score: BEDFORD 8 – 10 SAFC)
